In Peter’s first Epistle, he notes those in the world find it “strange” that those who convert to Christ will basically say “Enough!” to all the worldliness that once encompassed their lives (see 4:1-4). They will cease such activity and replace it with Godly living. It seems strange to the worldly-minded person that anyone would leave a life of fun and pleasure for the “boring” life of a Christian.
I’ve lived long enough now, sadly, to witness the devastation worldly living brings to peoples’ lives. It is a hurtful thing to witness. A Christian might justifiably observe, “How strange to choose such a destructive life that in the end never brings lasting pleasure…”
That’s a good point. A Christian perspective would and should think that a person who prefers a worldly lifestyle to a godly one is the one who is losing out on all he or she could have and be. A dedicated Christian is the only person who really profits from this life or the life to come!
Most of our neighbors and friends find it “strange” that we put so much time into worshipping God and studying His word however when my 6 year old asks poinient questions from books like Joshua and Judges, I know I’m on the right track! When he makes connections between Deuteronomy and Exodus, our family’s devotion to God and His word gives me the encouragement and strength to accept being “strange”!
Pretty special little boy! We could all learn from the example of his reading habits! Keep up the good work…
