The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous. – Proverbs 15:29
One of the greatest blessings the Christian has is that he is never alone. He never has to face any trial or trouble by himself; he never has to suffer through anything alone. God is always with us. Last night (at Wendy’s) we studied the Lord’s time of agony in the garden. There He prayed that the “cup” might pass from Him so that He not go through what He had to face. We know that was not possible just as we know that it is not possible that God remove every suffering from us. Yet, what great comfort Jesus received when He prayed! He was reassured and fortified to face His greatest trial.
So it is with us. God will hear us when we cry out to Him and He will help us through it. No, it does not mean He will necessarily remove it – but neither will He ignore how hard it is for us to face it. He will hear our prayers and He will comfort us through it!
Going through hard things isn’t fun at all. We need to develop the kind of trusting relationship with God that will send us to Him to pour out our hearts, and the faith that He really cares about what we face. It would be wonderful to have the kind of faith that would keep us from ever complaining about our circumstances. But instead to entrust Him with our future, as well as our present, and to thank Him for the help He will provide!
